How Hullside reports, sources and corrects.
Hullside covers boating as a trade desk would: what was built, what was recalled, what changed hands, and what it actually sold for. These are the rules that govern how.
Sourcing and provenance
Every specification on a model page is attributed to the source it was read from and carries the date it was read. Where two sources disagree, the page says so rather than quietly picking a winner. A figure we cannot source is left blank. An incomplete page is honest; an inferred one is not.
We do not publish a number because it is plausible. If we cannot say where it came from, it does not go on the page.
Prices
Hullside distinguishes four kinds of figure, and labels them:
- Recorded — a documented closed sale.
- Verified — confirmed with a party to the transaction.
- Reported — stated publicly by a named source.
- Estimated — our own modelled figure, always shown as one.
A headline may state a recorded price. A headline will never state an estimate as a price. Nothing appears as a sold price until the transaction behind it is documented, and we will not publish an illustrative or modelled figure as though it were real.
People
We report on boats, not on the people who own them. Hullside does not build tag archives or profiles for private individuals, and does not publish the identity of a buyer or seller in a recorded sale. Sold-price coverage names the model, model year, region and price — never vessel names, hull identification numbers, official numbers or hailing ports.
Independence
Advertising and commercial relationships never influence a price we report or a specification we publish. Where a story touches a commercial relationship, we say so in the story. Specification and reference pages are free, with no registration and no gating.
Artificial intelligence
See our AI policy for how these tools are and are not used in producing Hullside.
Corrections
Corrections are marked on the article, dated, and never made silently. See corrections, or write to us via the contact page.
